Temm flies south from Falcons

Dan Temm will swap life beside the River Tyne for life near the Thames when he joins Ealing Trailfinders from Newcastle Falcons over the summer.

The 25-year-old has been with the Geordies for the past three seasons and he has played 22 times for them and scored two tries.

Temm also captained their 7s team and played alongside former Ealing Trailfinders flanker Harrison Orr. His form in the shortened form of the sport caught the eye of the England 7s selectors and he has played for England on the HSBC World 7s Series.

“I've joined Ealing Trailfinders to become part of an exciting top-three club,” Temm said. “I know the club has big ambitions and I want to be a part of that.

“I'm looking forward to building on the hard work the boys have put in this year. The club has made some great signings and I'm excited to see how we come together as a group and a club to have a big season.”

The 26-year-old originally moved to the UK from New Zealand to play cricket, but began playing rugby for Old Crossleyans. After two seasons he moved to National Two North side Otley and while playing there he was spotted by Falcons.

During his time with the Falcons Temm played for Tynedale as a dual registration player and twice played for them against Ealing Trailfinders in National 1 in 2014-15.

“Dan is a player I have followed ever since he made a big impression while playing on loan for Tynedale against us,” Ealing Trailfinders Director of Rugby Ben Ward said. “His career has gone from strength to strength and he has made a good number of appearances for Newcastle Falcons.

“He will add even more competition to what is becoming a very competitive back row area. His speed over the ground and his ability to pick a line will be a big asset to us as well as his defensive work. He can play across the back row and gives us a variety of options as to how we want to play. He had interest from a number of other clubs but I'm delighted he chose us as the best option to continue his career.”
