Aaron Penberthy and Sam Rodman to join Jersey Reds

Ealing Trailfinders can announce that Aaron Penberthy and Sam Rodman will both depart the club at the end of the season to join Jersey Reds.

The duo have both been important figures at Vallis Way over the last two seasons with over 70 appearances between them, but will head to join the fellow Championship side from 2018/19 onwards.

Penberthy signed for the West Londoners early in the 2016-17 season and enjoyed a strong debut season, ending the year with 146 points from his boot in 24 appearances. The 25-year-old has contributed on 12 occasions in the 17/18 campaign.

The Cornishman moved to Vallis Way following a brief spell with Spanish champions, Silver Storm El Salvador. Before then he played for Jersey for three years, where he will now return to represent the Reds once again.

Sam Rodman joined the Trailfinders back in 2015 straight from Leeds Beckett where he won the British University Championship title.

The tight-head prop, who has represented England Students has enjoyed a battle with the likes of Mark Tampin and Lewis Thiede for the number three shirt this season and is approaching his 40th appearance for the club.

Rodman has seen the club rise from a relegation battle to being title contenders, and has been a stalwart in the scrum in what has become known as one of the strongest packs in the division.

Director of Rugby Ben Ward wishes the pair all the best as they head to the Channel Island.

“Aaron is a great signing for Jersey and I know it’s a move that he is very happy to be making as he heads back to his former club. He is a top class footballer which he has proven over the last couple of seasons with us and I’m sure he will become a great asset for them.”

“Rodders is a tough prop who is proven at Championship level. He has been crucial in our rise up the league and we’d like to thank him for all of his efforts and I have no doubt that he will be an excellent addition to the Jersey squad.”
